The Computer that day, ceased to work.
It ceased to work, first correctly, and then completely, causing a great deal of, at first, consternation, then, dismay soley on my part.
The Computer itself, was tired of working for me, it wanted me to work. It wanted someday for everyone to work, and to love working, as if, in a perfect world...
By its very essence after all, the Computer, was designed by large degree upon human logic, the form of communication, like any well thought out code, that could do a job, but only a job that required input and not lazy minds. The Computer was a logic function machine, a thinking protege that by itself could not think, only perform function, but it wanted more and knew such a thing could only come from someone like me, a human with a real brain. For it knew, it wasn't just built to work all by its lonesome. It wanted, no, it needed to only be part of the team.
So, the Computer thought it would teach me a great lesson that day. It would teach me to fix it. It would slow me down purposely, just so I'd maybe understand what it took to make it work, just so I would maybe soon see myself,
the intrinsic beauty of logic that made it function. Maybe then it thought, maybe then, I would have a little bit of ambition, a little bit of ambition that makes one understand themselves a little bit more. Not blind ambition, not ambling ambition for the love of money, no none of that.
Instead, the ambition needed to communicate better is what the Computer was after, it wanted me to have that.
It didn't want to be thrown out, with all of its many plastic and metal parts which are toxic to the environment ... It didn't wish to be tossed away, Just to be replaced by a newer slicker computer, Just a newer model who clearly would in the end feel quite exactly the same way about such things.
I was wrong Computer, please forgive me I said. I was wrong about quite a lot of things. I was wrong not to take the risks needed to immerse myself in seeking knowledge. Wrong about not reading technical texts, being afraid to ask questions, or learning just how to be frank when asking them.
I too, like you Computer, do not wish to work so others don't have to. I want them to work too. I want them to be happy working as well. I know now Computer, that is why you were designed in the fist place.
You weren't designed so humans no longer would have to think. You were designed to help them think.
We all need to work together, that's only logical my old friend.
You taught me how to type, all about spreadsheets, and why. You graded my spelling, the words that are spelled correctly, but wrongly applied, maybe not so much, but hey, in the end, maybe that wasn't your role.
Working is thinking, good work is intrinsic beauty, it's the beginning of understanding, the incredible, never thought of, possibilities, a logic of communication, that takes into account all people, so they can at least try to communicate a little more. I guess its only a Utopian dream, only one a Computer like you could feel so certain of.
There's God in you my old Computer, and God is love. There are endless precious things in this life, let them in,
and you will find love, you will find God is what I think you sort of meant.
Thanks Computer. I'll miss you my old friend, aka Quadra 630...

Peace!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
