Hide And Seek

Pretty girl...
Sunshine of your life...
Growing out of her baby clothes now.
She plays games with all of her little
friends.
Hide and Seek...
Lost...
But not to worry...
She'll be found again...
(Olly Olly Oxen Free.)

Wearing pretty little dresses...
In the backyard yard now...
Today she plays follow the leader...
With the children of strangers...
You watch out your window...
She's good at this game...
You smile...
Because it's harmless fun...
(Just a game right?)

Beautiful girl...
Still the sunshine of your life. (Right?)
Growing out of those little dresses now...
Painting her face up...
And it isn't play any more...
It's "hanging out"
You smile at her and tell her to have fun...
Tell her to be careful...
She blows you off...
Is this normal?
Are all teenagers like this?
How awful...

It's late...
The news is on...
But your afraid to watch it...
Afraid that you will find your
daughter had been playing Follow the
Leader again...
But with the wrong leader...
Who had led her off of a ledge...
Into the coming darkness.

And you watch for her out your window...
Each night a little later...
You understand she's playing hide and seek again...
Only you don't know how to find her...
Through your worried tears you whisper...
(Olly Olly Oxen Free)

You understand on of these days...
She may be lost forever...

(Olly Olly Oxen Free.)

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
