Sun comes up on Independence Day
Look around and appreciate
Listen for echoes of the dead
Far and near the battles raged
We shook off the yoke of tyranny
When old King George squeezed his colonies
We took up arms, cried ‘set us free’
Young men paid with their lives
For Freedom has a heavy price
Fires burned and blood ran cold
But none could doubt such bravery
With this in mind we celebrate
Precious freedom our forefathers earned for us
Keep it alive and well for all to see
A shining example of what can be
When citizens are free to pursue their dreams
Speak up and say what’s on your mind
Get out and vote, participate
Watch for Freedom’s light to shine
Don’t stand quietly by when corruption
Tries to tarnish Freedom’s glow
Shout ‘No’ and make a stand
To protect Freedom and keep her strong
Nurtured through so many wars
So many lives were sacrificed
To keep this precious hope alive
That one day all the world will be
free.

Thanks for giving me a reason to stop and think about the 4th. Sometimes, some of us, forget exactly what a holiday really means. Good one, merry!
