Now And Then

Contributed by Man_On_High on Thursday, 30th June 2005 @ 10:33:54 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

To me the world once seemed to be
most beautiful and fair..
an affinity for land and sea,
'twas all my heart could bear.

Kindred in an innocence,
I thrilled in all my joy
to find a cricket in the grass
when I was just a boy;

a robin in an apple tree
and thrushes in the wood,
the crows and ravens called to me
and it was understood.

A sense of union with the whole,
with every living thing;
but now my jaded heart and soul
shall cry and never sing

'cause all that's gone.. and now I see
our Mother Earth in strife..
unending war and cruelty-
an unrelenting life!

For bird and beast are helpless prey
to our sharpened tooth and claw..
A million murders everyday,
ignoring Nature's law.

Yet still, the Earth in splendor casts
me back to all my youth...

OH yes.. the old illusion lasts
in spite of all the truth.

This was another superb write Bill! Each verse so true and the flow as beautiful as it was written. Took me back to when I was small and my Grandad used to take me on nature walks through the mountains. It's hard to accept how things have changed so dramatically, but when I see my own son with a huge grin on his face catching crickets in the yard, for those few moments everything is right again in the world.

The world is still a wondrous place
And when those shadows cast
A wrong between people and race
Just look towards the past

when life and love where everything
And truth came to the fore
And chivalry flew on the wings
On birds in days of yore

I GUOTE THESE STANZAS
BECAUSE WE MAKE OUR LIFE WHAT IT IS
WHAT WE LIVE AROUND AND WE CAN
NOT CHANGE WE NEVER COULD NOW OR THEN IT'S SAD BUT WE MAKE LIFE WHAT IT IS HAPPY
