I Can See the Sunlight

selfstruggles

Ive sat in my chair,
For years and years it seems.
Always wishing, always waiting,
For my rescuer in my dreams.
I sit inside my seldom,
Wallowing in self despair.
Wondering, asking myself,
Why I keep myself here.
The door to my freedom is open,
Yet I remain a prisoner of night.
Why is it im scared,
Of this comforting light?
Ive closed my eyes to the truth,
And welcomed all the lies.
I never could see this sunlight,
For I was deaf to my cries.
The pain Ive endured makes me stronger,
Though I cower behind my blade.
Though I know the scars are weakness,
Because by me theyve been made.
Well Ive come to realize,
That the one you woke for eachday.
Isnt your motivation to life,
He isnt the reason I stay.
Now that he's gone I see,
Im standing on my own two feet.
I no longer cut myself to slumber,
And I dont shrivel up and weep.
So through the darkness,
I spot a tiny ray.
Though that ray is miniscule,
It helps me find my way.
I make my way,
Through that vortex of pain.
Slowly, but surely it fades,
Im no longer bearing the stain.
The blood washes away,
And the hurt begins to melt.
All the scars along my arm disappear,
Along with the inner welts.
As im fighting my way through hell,
I can see the sunlight.
Who ever knew,
In a world of darkness, happiness could shine so bright.

Well done piece of poetry! An excellent write about crawling from the depths of despair, and embracing hope...Congratulations to you for winning the cutting battle...No small feat there. Be proud of yourself! I especially like the third stanza. Keep it up!!
