Save The Last Dance For Me

Contributed by Willofree on Monday, 27th June 2005 @ 08:06:58 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

I watched you across the expanse of the room
You would whirl and flow to the melodious tune
So delicate and graceful I hoped you'd never stop
An experience of beauty and grace, like a spinning top

Completely spellbound by your beauty and charm
So many partners had embraced you in their arms
A smile on your face, laughter as you spun in the air
Radiating loveliness about you everywhere

Too shy to inquire a dance myself
Yet I wished it was I preferable to anyone else
My heart was beating fast as a drum
As the musicians neared the completion of this rendition

Now I knew it was my final chance
Because the band was playing the last dance
You walked slowly towards me and panic welled up within
I was so shy and overwhelmed, I could only grin

She knew, of course, that I had been watching her
With a smile and gesture she reached, please sir
As she softly spoke, I saved the last dance for you
Without uttering a word, we became two

Years later whenever they play our song
We drop what we are doing to dance along
Our hearts still fill with love and joy
As we move in unison, our love to enjoy

Hello. This is so dreamy and romantic. Wow! I think I'll stop reading all these romance novels and just read your poetry. I absolutely loved it.

Flowery prose you say? I dissagree...there is always such honesty of emotion in your writing...such simplicity. What you have written here are the words of your heart and no one can ask for more from a poet.

Very well done my friend

This poem is stunning. I felt like I had slipped backwards into time. Like being in a ballroom, waltzing.

Very impressive and eloquently written as well.

Aaaaahhhhh the favorite song that two lovers share. Terry this poem is so very beautiful. A dance with your love is so romantic. Two people together in rhythm with each other. Thanks for sharing this with us. Much peace. Laura
