*I hoped that as the leaves turned butterscotch yellow, candy apple red
I hoped for just and instant, things would go my way instead
I prayed that as the air got cooler, and the leaves began to fall
I prayed I could forget that I ever cared at all
Sadly, although the seasons change
Although there is more frost than dew
One thing never changes
I'm still in love with you
And all the mittens in the world
All of the hats, all of the scarves
They can't warm the empty feeling
No they can't hide a broken heart
I hoped that as I watched bare branches
Emerge from beneath the leaves
I hoped the bitter temperatures
Would cause my tears to freeze
But they still came down like rain
On a bitter winter day
I sat and watched my pain filled snowflakes
Catch the breeze and drift away*
