You never knew why (rewrite of you'll never know why)

Contributed by unbreakable on Sunday, 26th June 2005 @ 03:32:09 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I was drowning in memories, drowning for years
pulled under by sobs that never reached your ears
For salty water never left the corners of my eyes
And not a sound escaped my lips til after our goodbyes
I would have choked on my pain before I ever let you see
but you of all people should have seen right through me
the tears built up inside of me, tearing me apart
And I wanted to tell you oh, so bad, until you broke my heart
they say hindsight's twenty/twenty, and now I know it's true
looking back I'm oh, so glad that I never told you
You knew everything about me that I wanted you to know
and you chose not to see the things I didn't outright show
I'm not perfect, never was and I won't ever be
I didn't ask for your pity or your sympathy
All I wanted was your love but you never understood
You didn't see me for me, I guess there was no way you could
So the drowning continues, I'm still dying inside
My secrets die with me, I'll never abide
You already lost me and you never knew why
but I'm killing myself with each tear I don't cry

I love this poem. Probably because i can identify with every single word. Its a terrible feeling to hold all of your emotions inside. I know it might seem hard but sometimes not telling some one how you feel is the best thing to do. If you open up to someone it only makes it easier to get hurt in the end

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
