LostLove

I look up at the night sky
As a single tear slides down my cheek
And follows the path
Made by the many tears before it.
The stars are veiled in a shroud of mist
And the light from the full moon
Is dulled from behind the thick clouds.
Angrily I brush it aside but,
The flood gates that have been holding
Them back throughout the day
Are opened and a torrent of tears
Come cascading down my face.
A strong gust of wind
Comes sweeping across the fields.
The tall wheat is bent over
Like an aged woman
And the leaves from the surrounding trees
Come hopping and skipping over one another
Like little children playing in the meadows.
We buried him today.
Little did the people know that when
They threw each handful of dirt
On my lover’s grave,
They threw pieces of my very soul with it.
The light from the sun seems snuffed out
And its warmth seems stolen away.
He left me with nothing,
No way to guide my weary heart.
Where once there was happiness
There is a great chasm
And I can smile no more.
I look up at the night sky
As a single tear slides down my cheek
And follows the path
Made by the many tears before it,
But I know that he is looking down on me
And that I will make it to the morning.
