What are friends for...

Contributed by Emsal on Tuesday, 7th January 2003 @ 04:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

She was crying when she came to me
She said her brother is in jail
She looked at me with painful eyes
And said why can't life be a fairytale.

I put my arms around her
And I held her really tight
She said she was sorry for hurting me
And doing things to me that wasn't right.

She said I can't believe you still love me
I criad as I said what are friends for
She looked at me and I could tell she saw the pain
She was sorry for not being more.

I cried cause I knew this wouldn't last
She only comes to me when she needs me
I've learnt that from my past
But as I said what are friends for.

So I won't let her down
I'm going to keep strong
One day she may appriate me
I hope that day won't be long.

It's almost scary - as I have done this exact same thing - opened my heart again, and then got trampled on - nothing changes I'm afraid to say. People's personalities don't really change - they use all the words they can to draw you in again, and we let them, but they go right on hurting.

You did the same as me Emsal, but I hope you don't keep getting hurt like me - it's not a good way to live. This is a great poem and says so much about friends who abuse friendships. Well written.
