I went for a walk in a cold water stream
Found fools gold or so it would seem
My heart bounced with joy in what I had found
Thinking I hit the mother load as it sparkled all-around
Gold fever hit hard and it hit fast
I sifted and paned as hours passed
This is it, I am rich, I chuckle
I danced all around got wet to my belt buckle
When I strolled out in that cold water stream
Fame and fortune was not my incentive scheme
Lady luck had a hand in this wonderful dream
Oh at last I must awake from this fantasy,
Fools gold is all that it maybe
It allowed me to set my imagination free
Giving me a taste of make believe.

Your poem has taken me back to when I was a tom-girl, and the excitement I felt when rummaging through soil and rock and just getting dirty and feeling free . .. .It is wonderful to be able to experience these feelings in the discoveries we can still find as adults.
A fun read! Thanks!! |
