A cut to the throat frees the soul
And as the warm life that once dwelled within seeps rapidly from its vessel
The cold grip of death is somehow slighted.
The beating heart
Which once was the ever standing symbol of life
Now only hastens your demise as it pushes the river of life out of your wound creating a red ocean
That spreads before it settles calmy on the floor beneath.
What thoughts could pass through your suffocating mind?
"Have I lived a good life?"...
"Why me?"...
or will you fall at ease
"I had love"...
"My children are taken care of"...
And eyes,
Windows to your soul
How will they be forever clouded?
Will they become muddy pools
Or roll back in your head
Only to accentuate the agony of murder?
Will you lay loose?
Eyes wide open as if awestruck at the very sight of God
Or overwhelmed by the horrific glare of Satan.
Perhaps your eyes will close
Marking the beginnings of eternal rest
And going out like a glorified hollywood cowboy.
You are now but a memory
To live only in this secular world as a photograph
And a daughters preschool drawing on a refrigerator door
As time has been cut short
Time is no longer a master to you.
As you no longer pose a burden on the world
The world poses no burden to you
While your pale body lay in shadows forever
A cut to the throat has freed your soul
