Hollow
by E A Collins on Jun 14
Hollow as a life spent before its time
Full as a well ,the eyes in that face,
of all the sorrows of the world.
Slender is the grace ascribed to the vain
the proud and noble, who choose to starve
Fragile is the ghost who walks were a child once ran.
No tears, for so little is left.
The pride of young life, flickers as a candle
greets the morning breeze, and sends
its dying smoke to a blind sky.
Prayers of the fallen, expressed in contorted limbs
once ripe and full of promise.
Unborn children die, as the womb forever closed
borne to the broken heart
of the smothering earth.
Foolish to stand guard
Mad to bear the pain
Learning how to be in love with a life
that withers and dies in your arms.
African we hear your pain
Children we feel your tears
People we mourn your passing
For with your loss, we too die.
If only you had oil there.
If only you could buy the drugs.
If only you weren't too young to count.
If only.... we cared.
