Shattered Things And Broken Dreams

Contributed by ABySs on Tuesday, 21st June 2005 @ 02:27:23 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Todays the day she starts makeing plans for those
Big dreams at the tender young age of 14.
Yea she already has the rest of her life planed out to a T.
She says someday Ill be a big star on that silver screen,
Have a husband and a daughter,a big house on a hill somewhere.
She never thinks that someday may never come.
So she presses on...

We finder her 3 years later.
Alot has happen in those few short years.
First she lost her virginity and then found her way into drugs,
And in the past few months shes found a boy friend that likes to
beat her up and to top it all off she pregnant by that same great guy.
Yea life doesn't work out like we plan it.
Her dreams are just shattered things now.
Broken dreams smashed by the cruel wind of fate.

Now we look in on a man no more than 28.
Hes lived a little but still has alot of life to go.
Some how hes found away to make some of his dreams a reality.
He has a good job a beautiful wife and a house in the good part of town.
But fate is bout to send a curve ball his way...

He takes off early today.
He has something special planed for his wife along weekend
at a bed & breakfast; When he gets home tho he gets a surprise of his own.
He finds his best friends car in the drive.
Heres that curve ball and he swings and misses...,
and for the rage of the moment hes spending 25 to life,
while his wife sleeps beneath the willow trees.
Just another broken dream a shattered thing..

This life is not fair and dreams are broken everyday in a millon different ways we move on or succumb to the winds of fate.

The message behind this poem, as you conclude in the last line, really hits a nerve. The storytelling here is impressive in its simplicity and frankness; I found myself spellbound from beginning to end. The bottom line is, you have to expect the unexpected in life, because it won't always go the way you want it to.
