Consume all that hurts

Contributed by MajesticPoet on Monday, 20th June 2005 @ 08:55:01 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

--------_________-----------------

Wither, blister, burn and peel
smoke rises from a dying ember
its glowing core slowly diminishes
its pain will soon be over

Loneliness will be lost in the ashes
the fire gone
the consuming life blown out
gone away

Its spark torn away
light leaves
darkness returns
and pain is alone again

Charred ashes
grey hollow skeleton
of what was

Shattered realms and fractured hopes
splash into my shot glass and rush down my throat
Drowning, on their way, the faltering visions that are
trying so hard to crawl upwards out of my heart.

Nothing I do has affected anything of value,
No-one of value. And probably never will...

I'm the one who accepts the pain.
Succumbing to the number of my wounds.
I feel as if a blade has been slowly pushed through me.
Maybe I don't avoid it either.

I always feel like the bearer of bad news.
Delivering friends to the news instead of the reverse.
I'm sorry.

Loss tears me apart.
Leaves me tattered.
And unready to face the morning.

Fear, worries...
Unexplained shiverings
These are the components of anxiety.

The wait...
The excruciating passage of time...
It grinds on my nerves
As if I were caught unclothed in a sandstorm.

Some souls continually burn.
Others smolder.
I, however, prefer to bide my time.
Until it is to my advantage.

And in a great flash of rage and pain,
I shall consume all that hurts.

This poem is really good-I esp. liked the shot glass analogy.
