The day approaches,
the sun will soon stand still.
I try to imagine my celebration,
but the imagination is dry and dusty.
My surrounding world has forgotten,
such importance no longer matters.
I long to be part of a culture
centuries wise.
I wish to belong to a world
that sees the earth in its feminine glory,
recognizes its ripe, full pregnant state.
I would dance around the midsummer tree,
flowers in my hair,
grass between the bareness of my toes,
toasting to the Honey Moon
with a goblet of spiced honey wine.
Perhaps I should be a Roman bride,
and once again visit the Shrine of Vesta,
feasting and dancing at the Festival of Vestalia.
I wish to be a Celtic Druid
performing mystical ceremonies,
crowning a new Oak King.
Or I could celebrate at the
Ancient Gaul Feast of Epona,
praising the maiden chosen for Epona,
proudly seated upon the majestic mare,
long hair falling down her back.
Instead,
I sit here,
in my modern culture
thinking about all the forgotten wisdoms.
And I remember.
