Innocence Dies

Contributed by brokenbutterfly on Sunday, 19th June 2005 @ 07:37:31 AM in AEST
Topic: secrets

It's 8 p.m. A little girl waits.
Her tattered teddy bear hugged close
To her frail body, so like a doll's.
She huddles against the wall
And shivers, wrapping thread-bare
Blankets around her skinny shoulders.
It's 9:30 p.m. Dady's not home yet.
Mommy's been dead since they met.
The little girl is all alone.
Alone with her fears,
Alone with her tears.
Pleasant dreams never were,
Nightmares become her
Reality.
It's 1:45 a.m. The door slams shut.
The little girl wakes. Fear fills her gut.
Daddy's home.
SIlent tears of fright run down her face.
She hears his drunken footsteps on the stairs,
Turns to the wall, hides from his glares.
He enters her room. Each footstep brings her
Closer to hell.
"Wake up sweetie. Daddy's home."
His rancid breath flits across her cheek.
Her eyes shut tight. Tears leak.
His hand caresses her baby soft arm.
"Daddy's home. Tell daddy you love him."
She will not open her baby-blue eyes.
Not tonight, no matter what he tries.
"Say it, baby. Say I love you."
His tone is menacing. She's scared.
He grabs her arm and shakes her.
"I love you, daddy," she sobs
A slow grin spreads across his face.
He strokes her hair. She cries harder.
"Daddy... Daddy, no...no..."
He picks her up. She sees a little star
Burning not-so-brightly in the pitch black sky.
She screams once but is silenced by
A heavy hand across her face.
No one can help her.
No one can save her.
"Daddy no..." she cries.
It's 2 a.m. Innocence dies.

This happens all too often in our sad society.people don't like to talk about it but if they did perhaps a lot more could be done to save these poor mites.A very thought provoking poem.

This was a good write, and yes I agree, this does happen alot, people think it does not but it does, I agree that most people do prefer not to speak of it, as if it never happened, or as if they want forget about it, but this was a very thought provoking poem. SLipSiX.
