Tribute to Kassie

Contributed by bearbearsnanny on Friday, 17th June 2005 @ 06:57:02 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

WE KNEW FOR SOMETIME YOU WERE SLIPPING AWAY
AND DREADED THE MOMENT, THE HOUR AND DAY
WE LOVED YOU SO DEEPLY AND HAD FOR SO LONG
BUT KNEW THAT FOR ALLS SAKE WE HAD TO BE STRONG

YOUR DOCTOR HAD SAID YOU WERE “DISTRESSED”
THE BEST THING TO DO WAS TO PUT YOU TO REST.
YOUR EYESITE WAS GONE AND YOUR HEART STARTING TO FAIL
YOU WERE SO OLD NOW YOU WEREN’T GOING TO GET WELL

BUT WE COULDN’T BEAR IT RIGHT THEN, HAD TO WAIT FOR A WHILE
JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME WITH YOU, LIKE YOU WERE OUR CHILD
WE MANAGED TO HAVE YOU JUST A COUPLE MORE DAYS
UNTIL THAT RAINY SUNDAY WHEN YOU WENT AWAY

I FOUND YOU OUTSIDE, JUST OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR
STILL BREATHING HARD, LYING ON THE PORCH FLOOR
I CALLED YOU TO COME IN WHERE YOU BELONGED
BUT THAT LITTLE MORE TIME WITH YOU NOW WAS ALL GONE

WITH PAIN SO INTENSE I TRIED TO BE STRONG
BUT THE SILENCE WAS DEAFENING AND THE WORLD WAS ALL WRONG
I THANK NATURE WHEN SILENT IN TRIUBUTE TO YOU
BUT MY HEART WASN’T SILENT, IT WAS BROKEN IN TWO

I TRIED TO REASON, SHE WAS JUST A DOG, BUT MY HEART DIDN’T BUY IT, IT ACHED AND IT LONGED
THE TEARS COME IN PRIVATE OR WHEN I SPEAK OF YOU NOW
I MISS YOU SWEET KASSIE HOPE WE MEET AGAIN SOMEHOW

Pets are family and it hurts deeply when they pass on!

Good poem!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
