He does not understand,
He does not know his name,
He just nod and agrees,
He thinks indifference is the same.
He cannot move his limbs,
He does not know how,
He is cared for by his mother,
He does not know it should be the other way round.
He cannot tell the time,
He cannot tie his shoe lace,
He cannot recognise his own reflection of his face.
He has no issues,
He doesn't care how or why,
He bothers not with religion,
He is content to eat humble pie.
He has no need for politics,
He has no conscience telling him to do what's wrong or right,
He knows not of starvation, death and poverty,
He just lives his life for today,
Tell me whose life is better mine or he?

Well this is a heartbreaker. Well written. I used to work with severely autistic children and sometimes I felt their world was much more caring. Not to humans or sensual response, but to the mind and soul response. Who is to say and how many of us would want to be autistic or severely handicapped in any way. But if you listen to their souls it seems they have a special world that maybe might be nice. rita |
