"My dearie! - I shall be drafted
Into the great army soon;
Called up to join and be grafted
To it before the next moon."
Thus spoke the old warrior and then bent
His gray head in silent woe,
Unknown's the army, and unknown the land,
And he wished he would not have to go.
His weary deep blue eyes at this
Looked at me in a questioning way;
Would he find me again, and feel my kiss
When for me came the call-up day?
And when with the next moon he really had gone
The way that we all have to go,
I wondered whether his new squadron
Was blessed or suffered great woe.
I asked in sorrow and anxiousness:
"Father! - tell me how you fare!
So great is my longing, so deep my distress,
Please tell me aught of over there.
My heart was bursting with sorrow and pain
At not knowing about him, I cried:
"Shall we see each other ever again?
when his voice spoke: - "I am in the Light!"
"In the ever becoming and passing away
One thing will not fade and not jade;
But bloom in divine eternal May-
T'is what Love for Love has made!"

And so my dear friend, you lost another great love before your wonderful husband. Oh, ED this poem of yours written so eloquently really touched the softest part of my heart dear. I cannot image what it must have been like to lose a Father so dear, and one that loved you without fear! Your description was so brave, and positive, and yes we do have a Wonderful Father in the Heavens that helped us go on, but as a small girl, you must have missed his arms so much!
I can't tell you how very touching this poem was, and although I can't speak for you, I can only image how he must have loved you too.
That was very difficult to write and share, thank you ED.....you too are a brave warrior!
Warm love

So very loving, Elizabeth. A touching tribute to a wonderful man. This is how I felt about my Father. He has always been my hero along with my Grandfather. Marvelous men of great stature and very loving hearts.
God bless,
Rita |

This one reaches in and touches deeply to the core. Especially the day-n-age we are in now.
God bless u and your Dad for giving us all life to breathe. With out freedom we wouldn't have a chance. We'd be like bin-n-what's his name.
A masterpeice that will never ever dull the reader.

Having been under the weather for several weeks, it is with great satisfaction that I can again read, and comment, on such loving words as you have placed here in honor of your father. I read this yesterday, on Father’s day. It was so appropriate! There is no mistaking the great love, and respect, you hold for your eternal hero. Each sentence is a tribute in itself. There can be no better poetic expression than those words which come flowing from the heart without being mulled over, and prompted, to return to memory. It is apparent, from your verse, that your father is ever present in your heart and life. Such a lasting impression, as yours left on your heart, would make any father proud.
Please forgive me if my reads, and comments come a bit more slowly as I work myself back into my, once normal, routine. It takes so much longer now to do that which I, so very much, love to do. Maybe your words can teach me that which I lack most . . . patience.
John
