A Friend So Rare Indeed

How treasured is a priceless gem of gems,
Unequaled in its iridescent hues,
With sparkling brilliance it will never lose,
Complete perfection, whence its value stems.
To one, this gem may gratify his greed,
Another loves the seeds of envy sown,
While still a third may worship such a stone
For satisfying his possessive need.
How like this gem, a true and loving friend,
A soul encountered once throughout an age,
Who's always understanding ear will bend,
Who's every mood and urgent need can gauge.
Too seldom do we prize this friend so rare
By letting others in her goodness share.
