Heartbeat of the Earth

Contributed by Winterland on Wednesday, 15th June 2005 @ 11:14:17 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM

She strode around the circle

baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM

"This is the heartbeat"

baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM

"You don't have to copy it,
fly as high as you want,
but the heartbeat is here

( baDUM )

to keep us all together."

baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM

baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM

We join in
Deep and resonant
sharp and staccato
long and slow
hard and fast

All the drums,
all the rhythms
following the heartbeat that ties us.

Softly,
then loud.
Louder,
faster.....faster

Then silence.

Save the heartbeat.

baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM

Always the heartbeat.

Sharp cry of children,
a deep booming voice,
soft flutter of the wings,
and the piercing cry of the hawk.

Banging of the hammers,
whining of the saw,
reving of the motors,
honking of the horns,
blaring of the stereos,
t.v.'s
radios,
telephones,
The sounds of our lives are all around us.

Only in the silence can we hear

baDUM

The heartbeat.

baDUM

Always the heartbeat

baDUM

that ties us.

baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM .... baDUM

Save the Heartbeat.

It's refreshing to read a poem that isn't proclaiming how much the world sucks. I like the style, I feel as if I'm in a coffee shop listening to it. Makes me want a latte really bad. LOL, jk. I love it
