The Sky Is Black Today

Contributed by ForeverAndADay on Tuesday, 14th June 2005 @ 05:11:05 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

He stood up on mountain top.
His arms raised apart in a stance of accomplishment.
At the top of his l;ungs he screamed into the crowd;
"Show me your God!"
A crack of thunder in the distance announced an oncoming storm.

It's very cold down there in the valleys.
As the people are plunged into a darkness so thick that sunlight cannot break through.
It's like a crevice deep down in the ocean.
Pressure's so strong.
That they've become used to the way it crushes them,
Day after day.
So much so that it's only in the early morning,
when they question whether or not they deserve such pain.

Black birds and doves,
Circles an amber sky that rains feathers.
It does not matter which bird the sky strikes down,
In the end there are no survivors.
And there are not many people who will pick the bird up
and nurse it back to health,
There are only so many good samaritans,
Stuck in this place between Heaven and Hell.

His fingers are tingling with the immense power he has harnessed.
His eyes burn in rich defiance.
He screams into the grey sky, making sure his voice can be
heard over the raging storm.
"I see no God." His laughter echoes maniacally,
Then lightning crackles,
And his laughter can be heard no more.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
