Worse Than the Disease

Contributed by spike on Sunday, 12th June 2005 @ 07:27:59 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

I thought loneliness would eat me hollow,
Empty as a brittle shell
Leaving me to beg and borrow,
Who thought you would as well?

I feared the worm of grief would never still,
A writhing pain inside my chest
Never thinking a greater ill
Would pose a harsher test

In my hunger and my need,
You taught me what it's like to bleed
Took my heart and ground it fine,
Savouring my tears like wine

Why is love a two-edged sword?
To cut me deep with every word
Promises that flirt and tease,
The cure is worse than the disease

So there you go and I'm what's left,
Sorrier than when I was without
The jilted lover, now bereft
But better off without a doubt

In time the sore and lonely heart,
Will find its way to kinder hands
Choose love wisely from the start,
For wolves are mindful of the lambs.

Yet we still fall for it every time, because we need it. On the whole, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this poem, it tugs at the heart. Congrats, Spike, on being able to wear your heart on your sleeve and produce an emotionally-driven piece like this.

i love this poem, esp. the end, it is so true. but we have to feel pain before we can know what happiness is, right?

Oh, my GOD! yes yes, this is excellent! Methinks thou hast
found your way into my very head......damn, that was good, spike!
Nay, not good. Excellent! Phenomenal! Stupendous! Stellar!
Shall I go on? I have many more words in my thesaurus! lol All
kidding aside, it truly was remarkable. You are wonderful at
capturing emotion. This poem was a smashing example
of the naked truth. The last stanza is my favourite. Wise words,
my friend. Very wise...

*hugs*
