Faded Flower

Contributed by Man_On_High on Saturday, 11th June 2005 @ 08:19:28 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

'Tis but a little faded flower
but oh how very dear..
It'll bring me back to a golden hour
of many a forgotten year.

I may not to you all impart,
the secret of its power
but treasured in my heart of hearts..
I keep my faded flower.

Where is the soul that doesn't keep
within in its inner core
some fond remembrance. hidden deep
of days that are no more?

Who has not saved some trifling thing
to remember in the now
the memories that they shall bring
in wellness to endow?

I understand this very well. A precious token of a time past. My husband made me a band-aid ring to give me when he proposed. He wanted me to pick out what I wanted and being a doctor that sufficed for the time being. When he died, I found it among his possessions in the same box my real rings came in. I will treasure that forever. Some things are not ever forgotten and memories are never diminished.

dear mr. high,

it is true that many a secret are stowed in everyday objects, and nothing seems to bring back the fondest of memories as do these objects....something as simple as a faded flower can stir such emotion, and you've conveyed that message quite nicely.

Wow Billy---another good write. You express yourself so well. I just actually commented on another poem dealing with the same subject, and again I'll say, I can absolutely relate.

I am sooo guilty of this.... I have so much stuff tucked away it isn't funny.... like a little note on a scrap passed to me at a staff meeting from a teacher I had a crush on...
Sigh.... now I've got to go get out his pic...and reminisce...lol..
Thanks for the memories..
Jenni
