Letter to... Father

Topic: FamilyPoems

To You,
Thanks for missing my brithday
I stayed up late that night,
Hoping you'd surprise me,
but you were nowhere in sight.

It was nice of you to get drunk
And hit me really hard,
When mom wasn't looking,
All because you lost a game of cards.

I hope your happy
That mom cried again, today
This is the sixth time you've cheated on her
It's great to know 13years of marriage is easy to throw away.

Maybe if you hadn't gone unemployed
And wasted money on cigarettes
You'd be able to help Mom
Pay off hundreds of your debts.

I guess it doesn't matter much, now,
Cause mom got strong and stepped away.
Now you live somewhere else,
I see you every other Friday-Sunday.

It was my first weekened with you and
You already had a new girlfriend.
You took her shopping all day
I didn't know you had that much money to spend.

All the other weekeneds,
That I had to visit, I was ignored.
I guess its easy for you to forget
The two people we thought you adored.

But now that I've grown,
I realize that as much as I hate the things you've done
You are my Father.
And I, will always, have, to be your son.

I guess thats alright though
Since mom's got a new guy
He's so nice and caring towards us
He has yet to make her cry.

He means, so much to us, now
He's the best Father i've ever had.
But not biologically,
So he'll just be my Dad.

That's why I've made this letter
Because its time you know
You're my biological Father
But moms new guy is my Dad, the one whos helped me grow.

And so I guess I can thank you
For doing my mom,
because without you,
I would be gone.

But other than that,
Have fun with the new girl
Maybe she won't be strong enough, to step away...

Until next Friday-Sunday,

See you later Father.

Signed, you should remember my name.

Great writing, even tho very sad
but thank God u now have a Dad.
Hang tuff.
I know how hard this is as I raised my children without their father's help as he's an alcaholic.
My children never saw their father that often. He now lives in the same town but they are grown now with their own children. i have one son but now he has nothing to do with his father.
very sad but again great writing.
huggs,
emy

I don't know my biolgical father but my sisters dad was the closest thing I had. He was an alcholoic but he never hit us but we had to go over their every other weekend until we got old enough to take up sports where we couldn't. He also ignored us or I should say me. I feel the same way about him as you do about your father. Good luck and be glad you have somebody to look up to as a father figure
