I GAVE

I GAVE

'Twil ne'r be rich,
by fame was not picked.
Not a life of serenity, nor grace,
not perfect.
Controlled interference by some,
Headstrong, much imperfection
to overcome.
To be, who will that be?
Searching, reasoning,
will truth set me free?
Did I live my life in vain?
Reaching out, or refrain?
To whom does it matter?
Actor on a stage to flatter?
I lived by the guidance
given me.
I followed His directions
very carefully.
Will He remember?
He'll n'er forget,
not even forever.
Did I live my life for another?
My life as a beggar?
Do I deserve much praise?
Where are my bouquets?
Oh My No..............for,
I'm but a lowly slave,
I only did what I should.....
I gave.

"There is a wonderful mythical law of nature
that the three things we crave most in life--happiness,
freedom, and peace of mind--are always attained by giving
them to someone else."
~Peyton Conway March~

These splendid words echo a chapter in all of the 3 synoptic Gospels, and particularly the prayer of St. Francis of Assissi
That begins with
" Lord grant that I may not seek so much to be loved than to love, and to give rather than to receive. ..and so on.
These are profound words.
Wonderfully set forth poetically to make it another marvellous prayer so needed in our time, for the greater Glory of God!

Thank you Consue for composing this gem and for sharing it with us.
Love and peace
Elizabeth
