fill your heart with absolute finality
embrace your soul with complete brutality
cover your body with intense compunction
surreal falsity and empowering function
seal your fate with total confidence
sanction your void with entire competence
consume within assured mortality
excessive extremes filled in totality
careful now for it's hard to breathe
surely now confide in me
be not afraid for i am your friend
darkness consume me for it is the end

Hi Jennie. The sytle of this poem just flat out rocks. Something you should be belting out with bass guitar! It is a strong (like hit you with a hammer strong) poem. There's no compromise, it's all about seeing things in black and white. The first two verses are more abstract in what is final (though knowing you I guessed right) but these are the verses that really work. You can feel the power, the determination coming from these words. There is such surety of emotion, of confidence. These two stanzas could be applied to any deep routed determination or obsession. Oddly I thought of kc when reading because it could also be applied to her philosophy about being #1. I don't mean that in a negative way (in case you're reading kc), but in a determined way). But back to Jennie... the last stanza is different, for after all of the determination, once the moment happens it is... well... not anticlimactic, but more of the "not with a bang but a whisper" type of ending, a silent, slow fading away. It is sad, undeniably, where the first two verses had a hectic feel to them. An interesting poem, to say the least, and one you record! I really (or rilly :) liked it. |
