What If...

Contributed by Dakota on Wednesday, 8th June 2005 @ 10:59:52 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

I sometimes wonder
What things would be like
If you still lived with us
If our home was still ours
If our life was fun and filled
But it is not
And this I know is for sure
When you started drinking
Things got worse
Then you drank more
Putting yourself into a deep depression Y
ou thought I hated you
You bugged my sister about
Me not wanting to see you
Cant you see why?
You lived with us
And I resented you
You yelled at us
I wanted to push you away
But I knew better
I didn’t talk back
Until I was sure you deserved
What you were being told.
Your ideal parent idea
Is yelling, scolding, punishment
Because as most adults say
That’s what was done to you
Well, you aren’t your parents
Or your parent’s parents
You have a mind of your own
Would things have been better
If you did more with us
Well that is something
We will never find out
You live on your own
All alone, depressed, saddened
A drunk
Nothing is helping you
We have all given up from trying
You don’t want it
We wont give it
Because we are all sick of fighting
The fight

Good poem...it's a refreshing look inside the eyes of the families of alcoholics.
Well done.

Take care,
Stellar

Good poem. And I'm sorry that happened.
