A crystal globe,
Locked with a golden key,
Inside is a rare item,
You can’t touch, but you can see.
Two small orbs of light,
Floating softly in eternal twilight,
Look closer and you shall see,
Two small, frozen fairies.
Trapped inside for a century or two,
They died together, wrapped in each other’s arms,
Never again will they see the light of day,
They shall never hear what the other has to say.
Who put them there?
Why must lovers meet such a fate?
The observers begin to debate,
It’s wrong for two lovers to be hidden away like this,
Surely they deserve happiness and bliss,
What right does one have to lock up such things?
No one bottles up love, the essence of spring.
Ah, but they do,
A wise man lurks behind,
They have perfume don’t they?
Don’t you have children? I’m sure you do.
Don’t you keep your daughters locked away?
Keep your sons busy both night and day?
Is this different then those two of fey?
The crowd grows upset,
But our children are not trapped!
They are not kept from telling each other things like that!
Ah, but they are,
Why, just look at you!
Keeping your children busy up in their rooms,
They ask to leave and you question them thoroughly,
Is this not the same as the glass prison?
Of course not! They argue, they can still come out!
The wise man shakes his head,
But they cannot speak they are not free,
You have silenced them with your own golden keys.
