My chest wheezes,
My throat aches.
My arms are chafed
My legs want to die.
But still I run,
Slowly, but sure.
I won't walk again,
Not in this place.
The scenery ambiguous,
For the last 6 miles or so,
When I turn the corner,
And fianlly I know.
Only a long short stretch,
Seperates me,
From me biggest goal,
In eternity.
All the people line the streets,
All are cheering for me,
to make the last hundred feet,
Past the finish line.
At last I cross,
And collapse to a walk.
Almost a crawl,
As I recieve my medal.
How funny it is,
26.2 miles,
is most memorable,
in the last .5
I know that this is the thing
Ill remember long past
The reaching of a goal,
Impossibly at last.
I ran and I walked,
Jogged and talked,
Raced,
And won.
Not from a time,
Or against anyone,
Just the time got,
Is winning to me.
I fact they all say,
It's not how you did:
"Maybe it was a bad day,"
But finishing that counts.

sorry, its not very good, i just wanted to write something about it. Running/walking for 5 and a half hours is really hard to write a poem about. Even just the last 7 minutes or so, like i did. |
