My Greatest Enemy

Contributed by ForeverAndADay on Sunday, 5th June 2005 @ 05:54:33 PM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

She grins...
I hate her...
She resides in this dark place surrounded
by shadows and great malicious grins...
Wicked devastator...
She pulls me into her world again and again...
For our hands are tied together...
When she deals out destruction,
I have no choice but to hold on,
And hope that I regain the upper hand again.

She hates me...
She hates me so much that I can taste it...
Burning my lips like venom,
She reaches out and scratches at me...
She stares at flames and dreams of starting a fire
while I am asleep...
She looks at blade and wonders what it would feel like
going into me...
She thinks constantly what the result would be...
If she just held her breath...
And sent me falling into my helpless fantasies.

I hold her off...
Familiar beast that burdens me...
I keep her chained up...
Deep within...
We hate eachother...
We hate eachother very much...
But one day I shall destroy her...
Regain the happiness of which I mourn...
I will be rid of her...
And that part of me that I dislike will
be no more.

In the end...
Your greatest enemy...
Is
Yourself...

Well done! This is an excellent poem about self loathing, written with in depth emotion.
