My love was like a flame,
blazing tall and bright,
but now it’s just an ember,
I’m hoping you’ll ignite.
I don’t know what went wrong,
‘though we didn’t fight.
My flame is dying down,
dying down into the night.
I once thought our love was true,
for you I’d live or die.
But was that really love so true?
Or was it truly lie?
Forgive me love, I know this hurts,
deep within your soul.
Believe me love, this hurts me too,
my flame may soon be coal.
God willing I will love again,
no other one but you.
A love less bitter and more sweet,
than the love I thought I knew.

| Nice poem, but why were you shocked that you had written it? If you were afraid you were going to tear the target of the words down, then you'd probably consider some of my poetry to be monstrous. |
