palms sweaty and shaking hands
you stay calm, say you understand
tears start to stream from my eyes
you remain sane and say it's alright
hoping you cant hear the pain in my voice
for breaking up after all was my choice
this is not at all how i thought it would be
but i broke down when you said you loved me
not ready for commitment i need some more time
you patch up your life, i'll patch up mine
you say maybe next year we'll date again
but i think it's best we remain only friends
slowly and steadily we'll both get through
i want you to know i still care for you
i send you my hope, i send you my care
if you call for help know i'll be there
this thing that we had, it may not have last
but i wanted to go slow, you took it too fast
good night, my dearest, always rise with the sun
know this was the hardest thing i've ever done

Breakups are always hard. But, if you felt you weren't ready for such a commitment then you did the right thing. You cried because you do love him, even if it's just as a friend, and you didn't want to hurt him. That's shows your a caring person. Don't beat yourself up for it. Things work out the way they should in the end. Take care. SharonM |

This is a wonderfully expressed poem; really good flow, and heartfelt. Sometimes when heavy emotions are revealed it can scare someone away, but often things can be remedied with an honest conversation about needs and wants. Maybe not all is lost with this one....Good Luck.

Jennie:
Wow I’m sorry for the loss and I know its hard event if it was your choice. I’ve had these very words said to me before and they do hurt but he’ll make it through. Love is hard and full of pain and I’m feeling that pain right now in my life. I had someone tell me in a comment that love is the only pain worth having and this is true. I would never give up one min of the pain I have for it is from a love that I had as well. I don’t believe in regrets. Everything I did but the bad I have learned from their for it was good in its own way for it mad me stronger. My thoughts go out to you in this hard time of being alone when all you’ll want is someone to hold you and tell you it will be okay. Its hard to be alone when you first leave someone. If I could I’d give you a hug you seem like a awesome person. Take care my friend and keep your head up always I‘m here if you need anything at all….Steve

Jennie, this was pure undiluted sweetness. Sometimes some ppl are falsely accused of callousness - or worse guy chasing - but this poem shows that this couldn't be farther from the truth. You approached this with such consideration for D and the obvious pain you felt for having to do what you needed to do. You didn't feel good about it, it was hard for you, and that shows an exceptional kindness and tenderness. This was such a wonderful write, full of warm fuzziness. I liked this poem a lot, you always write moving poetry. |
