Other People's Lives

Contributed by puppy_dog_eyes on Tuesday, 31st May 2005 @ 10:26:58 AM in AEST
Topic: ApologyPoetry

In black and white is my view, snapshot facts serve to guide
I cannot see the colours, the hues of your world
So intently focusing, eyes perhaps of a narrow mind
Failure to observe the picture, how complex its entirety

Spoken thoughts, those claws of a cat, dig painfully deep
Too late to be retracted, rip the very core
This arena of words has bloodied a friendship
Healing in time is possible, but will always leave a scar

Your journey through life is however you choose it
As a passenger with you some way I will travel
Forgive the things I said, a fool can never steer you
A highway awaits you, but the vehicle isn't mine

I should have chosen silence, it was blunt and could not hurt
Instead I chose to wield the brutal weapon of speaking
Did I strike you too hard with opinions I offered?
Is the pain of my cutting now too hard to bear ?

Let me sleep now, in silence reflect on my crime
Let the dawn of tomorrow wash the stench of regret
If the demon speaks inside me, I will keep him locked away
And strive to remember, these are other people's lives

Heavy poem Steve, good written.

We often give our advise n opinions uninvited, thats in our nature.... And thats ok really..just depends on how other person takes it and does with it. Some take it well and others dont. Cant please everyone.

Oh yes Steve, I echo Nessa, this is a wonderful didactic poem.
I too identify so much with it.
Indeed we have to speak up, at times it is necessary and beneficial for both, remember William Blake's poem on "having it out" lest the worm in the apple grows bigger.
But te fine line is so hard to observe to keep within the limits of charity.
Great poem Kudos!
Elizabeth

Oh My Steve and you wrote this down so well. How many times we regret for what we might have spoken.........sometimes it's hard to be silent, I know. But much easier to remain silent, that to have to let a beautiful friendship go!
This was a really good poem, I could follow your reasoning all the way. I hope things turned out OK?
Warm love
