How could I have forgotten you so easily?
It has been so long
so many years.
I have not even imagined you;
your name;
the soft, honey gold hair
I always knew you'd have.
I made a promise
those long days away
standing at Jesus'
stone and silver feet
I made a promise
I could not keep.
I can almost feel you in my arms
falling fast asleep
falling faster than the rain has known
following your dreams to sleep.
I told you before you could even see
that I would keep you safe
that I would make the world
a better place for you.
But i couldn't; I couldn't
even save you.
Your mother's empty gray eyes
growing tender boxy pain
to shatter me
and suffer me to dream
the softest sky I could not see
A better place
A safer life
A warm bed
to lay your head
and cradle you to sleep
And I have forgotten you
so easily
so many years
those long days away
the soft, honey golden hair
I always knew you'd have
the tender boxy pain
suffered in sad, imagined eyes
that shatter me
falling fast asleep
falling faster than the rain has known
following Jesus' stone and silver dreams
following your sleep.
Tonight, I give you
what I would never give
what i could not give.
Tonight,
I give you a name...
Talia.
Talia Rose.
