Plastic Pink Roses

False water drops like
manufactured tears
on sale at Walmart,
rest faded beside the granite rock.
Abandoned and wind-worn.
Visited in memory
as few seconds allow;
the wind, an empty
one-sided conversationalist
in comparison to flesh and blood
and breath.
Only plastic pink roses adorn
shallow meaning.
I bet pink wasn't even your favorite colour.
~Kara

Ohhhh, Kara ---- I do like this! Better yet... I like it for many reasons. It was your author's note that drew me in actually (one of my more recent writes was born of a stop at a cemetery - so, I could relate to finding inspiration there and... to your remark that it was a "thoughful trip"). The write itself is thoughtful, insighful AND thought provoking. And this:
the wind, an empty
one-sided conversationalist
in comparison to flesh and blood
and breath.
was terrific. It was your conclusion though, that really drove this home (together with the title, I suppose). Your point is not lost on this reader. Extremely well done!
Impressed,
~Snemmy~ |

Kara..
I find it only necessary to say that
this poem preserves the memory of one who
has never met you..
how noble and kind
so much said in so few words..
beautiful solitude..
great imagery
very well written

Love it.
I know how you can see or hear or taste something... and to anyone else
it seems insignificant, but to you it inspires poetry.
Very lovely, lonely at the same time.
Your work is always inspirational to read.

This poem is wonderful. I wish people wouldn't put those plastic flowers there unless they plan to change them out monthly. It looks so degrading to me. Maybe it is supposed to look nice from the streets or something, but even an ivy planted would be nicer. Only 37 y/o and all she gets is plastic faded pink roses. It just seems so sad to me. It is a very emotional sort of poem. I love cemeteries and the headstones of the old graves. They are quite unique and interesting. Rita |

well this definitely was not what I was
expecting and you asked me to tell you what I
thought about it so I might as well be
honest... and say that it was AWESOME. I
thought the last line was a bit weak, but the
rest of the poem was really well done. I
thought this poem was a bit more
commercial friendly (if you want to use that
term). I was reading a poem in a book at
Chapters and while the two poems have
nothing in common the structure of the two is
what brings me to draw the comparison. Well
I am not sure if that makes any sense, but I
hope at least one thing is clear... that I love
this poem.
