The Longest Embrace

Contributed by eyeris on Monday, 23rd May 2005 @ 10:11:56 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

There is a vexation behind those sad eyes
It makes my heart ache, I hate long goodbyes
If things could be different and god finally gave me what I want
I would be out of your mind, you're heart I would no longer haunt

My own heart now aches with dull desolation
I long for a time, not so long ago, when you were my salvation
The world was spinning and we both joined in
our hearts were lighter and I felt you there from deep within

We tumbled together, both falling fast
you held out your hand but I missed your grasp
into the darkness I did descend
I lay there motionless, I knew it was the end

So now I bid you farewell, but have to keep from looking you in the face
my only wish is that you know you were my longest embrace

I particularly enjoyed the last two verses. Great poem, I hope you don't stop at just one.

Well done! This poem shows a good command of language and poetic expression, and well-penned emotions. Quality work. Keep it up!

Andrew
