Cave of Mirros

Contributed by KatherineMacKinnon on Monday, 23rd May 2005 @ 10:03:59 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

There is a place,
A cave of mirrors, you see.
She who entered never knew,
Never had a clue.

She surrounds herself a thousand times over,
But never sees a face.
It is too dark, you see.
To dark for her to flee.

These mirrors, you see, are very critical.
They notice every flaw, every imperfection.
She walks deeper into the cave.
And to her imperfections, she is a slave.

They come in closer and closer.
Their edges are sharper.
It is so dark, you see.
She is clumsy.

The mirrors cut like razors,
She whirls about and screams,
Demanding to know her enemy.
They are silent, you see.

Her anger flares up.
Rage, you see, fills her souls with ease.
She fights, and fights on but never
Will she win, for it’s a futile endeavor.

The harder she fights, you see,
The more she is cut.
If only she would be still
Then maybe she would avoid this kill.

She screams over and over,
Thrashing around, searching,
Because she needs to know who to fight.
She will never know, you see, for she has no light.

She lies on the ground now,
Breathless and bleeding.
She is frustrated and hurt, you see.
She fears she will never be free.

There won’t be a happy ending for her,
She will never be free,
Because she will never see
What you see.

Very interesting poem (and welcome to the site, for I guess you are new). An interesting metaphor for self scrutiny and how it can be painful; I really like the concept of a cave of mirrors.
