Murdered Parents and Crying Boy 1977 enamel on board: Richard (Dick) Frizzell
My life resembles the manor grounds,
With facades and levels and dark surrounds
And deep within its central stage,
A hollow place consumed with rage
I am the loss,
And I am the pain,
Who was the child.....
Kneeling in the ruins of my dying life
On darkened street I met my fears,
Shed innocence, and bitter tears
Wealth and privilege are for naught,
When what you crave cannot be bought
I am the weak,
And I am the helpless,
Who was the broken youth.....
Sobbing over the graves of my dead parents
My sleep was always laced with dreams,
nightmares rent by mother's screams
So I taught myself to meditate,
And sought a focus for my hate
I am the bitterness
And I am the anger
Who became the pupil.....
Guided by the hands of monsters
I forged my body into steel,
And broke my pain on mission's wheel
Then cloaked my rage in cape and cowl,
And chose a battlefield in which to prowl
I am the wraith
And I am revenge
Who is the punisher.....
Standing over the broken bodies of my enemy
The city is my hunting ground,
The darkness is the place I'm bound
The red of blood and the black of night
Colour my nocturnal fight.
I am the beast,
And I am the man,
Who is a contradiction.....
Contemplating the return of his demons
The anniversary of two senseless acts,
Rousing all the memory bats
For you my parents, a single rose
Reaffirming the path I chose
I am the good son,
And I am the divided soul
Who will revenge the fallen.....
Driven on by a promise unbroken.

A wonderful tribute to the stories and the concept itself,
my friend. I adore the style of this-- the one line stanzas,
the bolding and italicizing in all the right places add to
the "contradiction" and confusion that must have been
going on inside this complexing creature.
(My "guy" was[is] spidey ..but the bat is a very close second. lol)
Excellent post, poet. I'm sorry more haven't taken the
opportunity to enjoy this. It was incredibly well crafted.
