I know that you will never understand-
As my own will I am not able to command-
For this disease has a mind of its own-
And through the years it has so grown…
Could I but reverse and turn back time-
Then from this bottle I would not have to climb-
But no matter what I choose to say-
I can only promise you things on this day…
If I could look into the future to be-
Then I would know for sure about me-
But my days to come are filled with fear-
For they have not yet begun to get here…
One day at a time is all that I can now give-
And it will be that way while I live-
But for today I find that I am able to think-
For as the night comes I find that I did not drink…

This is commendable that you write this and I hope it helps others with the disease of drinking or drugs. It is a one day at a time success. For each day that you succeed you need to give yourself a pat on the back. It is not easy and you will have to fight it forever. But it does get easier the longer you stay sober. It is wonderful that you will talk publicly about this. Good luck to you.
