Two poets died here tonite

Contributed by somedaylove on Friday, 20th May 2005 @ 01:28:05 AM in AEST
Topic: poets

The words that we all write on these pages
For the world to see
Are pieces of our hearts and our lives
The comments we get
Make us live or die

I stop writing once
What seems like forever ago
Partly because I had no support
Some because I lost my passion
I a big part was due to a lot of self doubt

The passion I felt when I found you
Brought it all back
I just couldn’t stop it
The words were flowing out of me
Like the raging river leaving its banks

But because off something dumb that I did
And the words that I spoke
You talk of putting down your pen
To never ever write again

If you do this I will know in my heart
It’s my entire fault
For I know way to much of what I read to heart

Your writing and words
Are so much better than mine
I can feel what you feel with all that I read
You have a great passion in every word that you write
It would be a great loss to all you inspire

So if I have caused your pen to fall
Then mine will also lie down
Not only because I caused you to stop
But also because without you
What would I write?

If this is what is meant to be
The last words that I must write
For the world to see is
Two poets died here tonite

Of course I only speak for myself but I really like this poem and, to me, it is thought provoking. It is true that we write here "on these pages
For the world to see
Are pieces of our hearts and our lives
The comments we get
Make us live or die"
I hope that you are speaking metaphorically when you say "die" as I have written about this very thing....metaphorically. The things we say are interpreted by others and sometimes misinterpreted by some of the most important "other" in our life. But the thought right now in me is that obviously you are writing about someone who is very important to you and I hope this person realizes this and at least does not invalidate your feelings that you are willing to let the world see. Sometimes things can get so out of hand just by a simple misinterpreted feeling expressed. I hope this does not happen to you and hope neither of you stop writing. Take care.

My poem was misinterpreted
I lay down my pen to gather myself. Words I spoken have left me in solitude
"Please do not mourn for me"

I can relate to this poem myself. Having been a writer for years, I stopped for almost the same reasons, but missed it terribly. You captured that feeling perfectly.

Neither of you should stop writing. It is in a poet's/writer's blood. It boils up from our hearts and souls and must be proclaimed to the world. Look what the world would be missing. Words from strangers have been known to change lives, even save them. I ask you both to rethink your decision.

Smile on,
Rita
