No longer do I love [alone]
for now I've given my heart loan.
The largest demons have left me be--
Oh! if only for eternity!
The dream of me that I live
is of people who will forgive
and hope and peace that blow through meadows--
(While I myself dwell in shadows)--
too soon expire
so I am destroyed in reality's fire.
But only when my sleep disrupts
by missing things my mind corrupts
will this damning torture
be my looming future.
Till then, think not of the folly that be--
think only of a sleepy melody.

A young age , I think , does not take away from this poem. You have given yourself to little credit but I will give to you what you have denied yourself. This is a great poem for any age. Rarely do I bother to read one twice yet I did on this one. truly , doug |
