I sat there on that park bench
An older couple next to me
We watched the children playing,
In the falling autumn leaves.
They soon spoke of their children,
How they’d grown and moved away
They spoke of how they missed them
And how one had gone astray.
They talked of love and life and things
Their journey almost through
Those days when others shared a heart
When they took some time for you.
He glanced around, the fancy cars,
Looked down and shook his head,
Its what’s become important now,
While hungry children go unfed.
Just look around, he said to me
Homeless people roam the streets,
Cold and tired and lonely
Some exhausted by defeat.
My son he said to me,
As I stood to walk away
Take time to help the lonely
You may be their light this day.
Remember it’s a journey
Walk with Jesus everyday.
It’s a long, long path we travel down,
He’ll protect you “on your way.”
