I don't recognize a damn face in this crowd & the mood is low, and it seems that no one knows, where our lives turned to the end. And the afterlife began.
I met a man who claims to know who we are, and where we're from. He tells me my mother is the stars, and my fathers the sun.
But who can we trust, in a world filled with shame, a remembrance from you helps me ease the pain. And when I wake up, will we feel the same. Or have we been tortured enough just to change.
I remember slow sets of the sun, eclipsing our thoughts, erasing the bad. taking stabs in the back.
Take off your blinders and take a good look at the truth. You'll see you know nothing and now you got proof.
This land has betrayed us, our memories of what was, a clock on the ceiling, ticking faster as we lean, closer and closer, to the end of our lives. we all sit and we'll watch, say our goodbye's......

I liked the entire poem, with the exception of the second to the last stanza. The poem shifted from first person to second person, and that kind of took away from the first person feelings and perspective. If it was a quote of "the man" in the poem, I believe it should have been in single quotation marks (Like this: ' ) so I could have understood the shift as being not the writer's shift.
(This website doesn't like the double quotation marks in the submitted poems -- turns the html text invisible.)
Minus that first/second person shift, I really like the poem. It was interesting material and perspective, and presented well. |
