Our Own

Contributed by Man_On_High on Tuesday, 17th May 2005 @ 12:08:15 AM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

If I had known that night
how wearily all next day,
the words unkind
would trouble my mind
that I said.. when you went away...

I'd have said something different... darling
nor given you needless pain..

but sometimes...

we all hurt our own
with a look and tone
we can never take back again.

So now in all my evening
I'll never be at peace..
and it might well be
that never for me
this pain in my heart should cease..

So-many go out in morning
who never come back at night,
whose hearts have been broken
from a harsh word spoken
that sorry can never set right.

We have pleasantires for a stranger..
(sure)
and a smile for a guest,
but for our own
we've a bitter tone...

though we love our own the best.

M.O.H.

YOUR RIGHT WE TREAT A STRANGER ON THE STREET BETTER THAN WE TREAT OUR OWN..
WE SAY EXCUSE ME TO A STRANGER BUT MOVE TO OUR OWN
THEN WHAT WE HAVE IS GONE AS WE ONCE HAD IT
WE WISH WE COULD HAVE WHAT WE ONCE HAD
WE NEED TO CHERISH EVERY MINUTE WITH WHAT WE HAVE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT MIGHT BE GONE
I VOW TO CHERISH EVERY MINUTE WITH YOU WHEN WE MEET AGAIN
I LOVE YOU BILLY

Sweet Billy,
I have known this kind of pain - intimately
It is torturous, at best. :(

You are right, of course. Why do we save our best faces for strangers
and hide our deepest love and compassion for those we love the most?
It is a question I have pondered for many years, (from very humble
and cursed beginning). Is it because we feel our own will forgive
where a stranger might not? Is it that we trust our own to understand
where a stranger would simply judge and move on?

In any event, it has been a goal of mine to try and recify this
commonplace, if only within my own circle. Eventually it shall
be paid forward.

Your expression and honesty is most beautiful, love. Your usual.

Yours, most ardently,

~Breezy
XO
