In the Night

Head cradled on a pillow
I lay curled on my side in a ball
Completely against my will
Hot tears begin to fall
Blanketed with sorrow
I feel my body shake
Loneliness surrounds me
It becomes a physical ache
Insomnia rears its ugly head
No sleep for me tonight
My mind is free to wander
What it finds is no delight
I lay on my side, as if in a trance
Not awake, but not asleep
Insecurities, doubts, fears
Through my mind continue to creep
As I blindly stare out the window
The cat nudges me with her face
Startled out of my private Hell
I come back from that awful place
Happiness is a distant memory
But for others I'll put up a front
I'll wear my mask and put on a smile
And continue my life long hunt.

Wow! I like it. It reminds me of my hated days, and i totally understand it. Sometimes a mask makes you feel comforted in the dreaded reality we live in. |
