Scattered Petals
Pastel petals of happiness
Flourish in a world of grays.
Their color outshines the sadness
Of the dreary shades.
The flowers aren't beautiful
In this world of loss.
They are weeds that are plentiful
Growing in the shade of the rotten cross.
They grow from the blackened blood
To still bloom unwanted.
The pastel flowers can never get enough
Of the shaded light begotten
By the black rose becoming pastel pink in color
Now not outshining any color as it is duller.

The colors! I loved the use of colors in this poem. For some reason the contrast between greys and colors seem to interest me, and I always enjoy a new take on the whole matter. The first line was a real hook, the pastel petals was a beautiful image in my head...I could never explain why though. I noticed a sense of hope throughout the entire write, and it's a pleasure to read something like this from you, which is a variation from your other writes. Variety's always a good thing. The unwanted blooms was a nice touch also, overall the poem was great, and that last line was an amazing conclusion. The sense of outshining any color just because it's darker/duller, lol it kind of dashed the colors to the rocks, but it was really something that seemed normal, considering the world you are writing about. Tasty stuff Jen : ) |

It is amazing to me that flowers can grow in the dreariest of places. They burst through shattered graffiti-filled sidewalks, blood-tainted areas. Beauty is in the world to say, no matter how dark we make it. There is truly a black rose that as it starts to die the petals turn a golden color. Beauty will always come through some way in this world. The spirits will see to it.

I always liked the use of flowers to symbolize a combination of beauty, fragility, and yet, their strength. In the poem it seems black (evil)neutralized by pastel. Like one colored petal, could be seen standing alone in a field of gray. One flower could grow from a crevice in a rock. Like Christ, so gentle, yet so powerful. Anyway, that's how it struck me.
It seems to have a deep meaning....
Well done

This was just a beautiful poem through and
through. I loved the line "their color outshines
the sadness" that just really stuck out and
slapped my face to get my attention. This was
great thanks for posting it.

OK, reading the other comments I'm not sure I agree with them. This seems more to me about happiness wasted or even unwanted, sort of an odd thing yet not unheard of...
Clever idea, if I'm on the mark that is, but to each reader their own impressions and not always what the writer intends.....
Interesting choice here Jenn...interesting. |
