Little Flame

Contributed by nomie on Monday, 16th May 2005 @ 09:37:40 AM in AEST
Topic: abstract

Your little flame lights my dark corner,
While I push against the icy walls,
Plaster rubbing my skin as it blisters,
In your light, my fear is that of stone,
Cold. Absent.

Your orange dance is tantalising,
I want to burn, but you never let me,
My empty warmth cup is filled slightly,
By your encouraging presence.

I watch you for hours,
All mind plagues die away,
By your light, the wall fades,
Showing the unseen.

A much lighter hallway,
A passage unused,
You depart,
I follow.

I wander into sunshine,
The master of light,
The warmth of a million you,
But, my little flame,
You showed me the way.

Oh, little flame,
A smoky line replaced you,
One small dot of orange warmth remains,
Pulsing in the breath of the last,
Struggling to sustain,
Then gone.

I walked with you, little flame,
Along a path unseen,
In a never-ending night
In the last of your time,
You were there.

I will sacrifice the sun,
Enclose it in a cup,
Shrink it to mere fire,
Compromise the day,
So you can be a little flame again.

I think it is cool for an abstract poem. There are plenty of allusions to friendship in it so that the reader is not totally confused. The relationship between you and the flame is one of them.

I think I understand this poem, and if you knew me, you'd know this isn't usually my style. I thought it was a perfect analogy of how your friend helped you and then when they lost the power to help themselves you came thru for them. All the time wishing they could get that power back for themselves. Is that close? Remember now, I'm an older person, and I'm assuming your not! Help me out here.

A little confusing on first reading, but I got it the second time through (I don't read much abstract poetry!)

However, I liked it :o)
