The day

Grief

The day was going wonderfully,
Or so I think, I can't recall.
I was heading home from school,
I was young, I had it all.
We turned the corner to my home,
Our way was blocked, with no way through
We went around, not knowing what
Was going on, nor what to do.
As we approached our driveway I
Remember drawing in a breath
The scene truly didn't register
Within my heart to it's full depth.
Before me, in the house next door
Flames were pouring from the floor
And when I look toward the lawn,
I felt my heart become withdrawn
I saw my best friend's screaming mom.
The firefighters doused the flames
They snuffed them out, and made them die
They were too late, however, for
My best friend's life, my best friend's cry
Her mother on the cold wet grass
Knew in her heart, and so did I
That she was gone, forever more
But that her spirit would not die
I was young and had my life, my dreams
These, I know, I'll always keep
I'll treasure them forever more
This scar has carved them eternally deep.

What a horrible thing to have happened. Sad you had to witness and acknowledge death so you. You penned this well. She will always be in your memory and probably watching over you.

Very sad but a remarkable testimony for someone as young as u was.
What I find amazing is that u knew where your friend was at that tender age.
This is a heavenly tribute to your friend.
Remarkably written.
huggs, luv,
